The Rancho San Diego Community Plan required this project to provide a transition between the rural, residential areas to the north and west, and the commercial areas to the south. The client required the building’s image to reinforce Kaiser’s well-defined brand. This required a design sensitive to the scale and vernacular of the surrounding areas and reflective of the client culture.

This resulted in a sloped roof entry over a two-story lobby that provides immediate wayfinding to all departments. Stone ledge walls, rusticated details and an entrance pergola provide an architectural character cohesive with both the community context and client image. Interior spaces and finishes provide a soothing and uplifting environment that enhances patient well-being and healing environment. The construction cost was well within Kaiser’s standards.
